We have received a response to our inquiry regarding the involvement of women in peace negotiations.

31.03.2025

In February, we sent an open letter to the President of Ukraine demanding the participation of women in peace processes in accordance with international standards, including UN Security Council Resolution 1325 "Women, Peace, and Security."

This letter was supported by 105 signatories, including 42 individual signatures and 63 signatures on behalf of civil society organizations from all regions of Ukraine. This is a powerful testament to society's demand for equality, justice, and equal participation in peacebuilding processes.

The letter was sent on February 13, 2025, but within a month, we did not receive any official response. Therefore, on March 18, we sent a follow-up request asking for an update on the status of the letter.

On March 27, we received an official response from the Office of the Government Commissioner for Gender Policy. It confirmed the relevance of the topic and emphasized that the involvement of women in negotiation processes aligns with Ukraine's state policy.

It is important to note that the response mentions that our letter reached the Office of the Government Commissioner through the Office of the President of Ukraine only on March 20, more than a month after its initial submission.

We have already provided a detailed response to the Office's inquiry regarding the circle of potential experts and possible formats of engagement. Just like in the development of the National Action Plan 1325, we are open to collaboration and ready to initiate the creation of relevant working groups, agendas, and coordination mechanisms.
